How did you decide on your profession?
I decided on my profession as a mental health practitioner focusing on the
Transition Aged Youth of 16-25 years old because I feel passionate that If
there would have been dialogue regarding reducing the stigma that surrounds
mental health when I was younger, it is possible I may have been more opened
to treatment during those difficult years.
What is your favorite part of your profession?
My favorite part is that I get to help others. I get to help them reach various
life goals and there is a mutuality built. The clients always end up helping me
as well.
When did you learn about the importance of self-love?
Unfortunately, I never was capable of self-love. I would always hear the
saying, ‘You can’t love someone else, until you love yourself.’ I always found
this clique and would often think well I am doomed then because I will never
believe I am good enough. It wasn’t until I started on this path of self-
discovery, free of drugs and alcohol that I began to have a clear mind set. I am
extremely proud to say that today I love myself and I deserved to be loved
because I have put in the effort of retraining my brain. I do the work necessary
to continue down this amazing path.
If you could share one message to females everywhere about self-love, what
would it be?
We are all unique beings. No one will ever know what it is like to be you. You
are beautiful just the way you are. We are unique beings but not terminally
unique in the sense that other females go through feeling like their bodies are
not enough or they could be better in this area or that. I made the mistake of
believing that I was the only one who felt the way that I did. Which in turn
caused me not to reach out and talk about my daily negative self-talk because I
was convinced no one would understand.
Has there ever been a moment in your life where you felt unworthy, what was it?
There isn’t just one moment for me. I went a good 34 plus years thinking I was
not good enough. For as long as I can remember my mind would tell me that I
was ugly or too skinny or too fat or not smart enough or my boobs weren’t big
enough, my butt wasn’t big enough then it was I was my boobs and butt were
too big. I was never happy with who I was on the inside or outside. So I used
substances to numb my pain. Today I literally am retraining my brain. It has
been the absolutely hardest thing to do because I have been thinking a certain
way for so long. Your brain is a muscle so I have been ‘flexing’ this muscle is
such a specific negative way that retraining it at 36 years old has been oh so
challenging. However, I am up to the challenge and practice ‘thought
replacement’ daily. I am happy to report that by doing this I truly feel so much
love for who I am, the challenges that I have overcome and the path I am on
and where I am headed. Today, because I love myself, I can truly help, show
up for and love others which honestly brings me to happy tears.
How do you encourage and promote self-love to others?
I am a huge affirmation gal. On social media you will never get a “like” from me. I
am all about the “love”. I will always give you a heart. If someone around me is
engaging in negative self-talk. I hold them accountable and ask them to tell me
something that they like about themselves.
What does the Glam By Sam motto (“find your glamour within”) mean to you?
This is such a beautiful motto and Sam what you are doing for your generation
and those to come is absolutely amazing. I am so honored to be a part of this
project with you! Your motto is one that I wish was around when I was
younger. “Find your glamour within’ to me means, we all have our own inner
Bosses. We all have qualities that make us shine. Find your true self within,
find your personal glamour within and let it shine.
How do you find your glamour within on a daily basis?
I have a close relationship with a power greater than my human form. This
relationship allows me to think outside of myself and focus on the perfect
energy that surrounds my being. Every day I go within to this light source as I
like to picture it and ignite it. I meditate every day and if I am having an off
day which is completely normal, I reach out to my support system who always
bring me back to where I need to be. Being of service is an act that allows me
to find my inner Glamour as well.
During the COVID 19 pandemic, who or what do you turn to as a way to maintain
positivity, clarity, and motivation?
I listen to Podcasts, I meditate, I read a lot. I try to be of service to anyone who
needs it. Even though it is hard with social distancing you can still reach out to
your Peers. Ask them how they are doing, write them a letter, get creative, make
up songs. This is an unprecedented time we are in however there are still ways to
manage and cope with the fears of the unknown. All you have to do is put these
practices into action. Which is simple yet not easy but possible.
Lastly, I will ask you to leave us with some words of wisdom (your
favorite quote, words you live by, your favorite bible verse, etc.) andwhy those words mean so much to you.
“You can’t control the hand you are dealt, just how you play the hand.”
“If you have desire, consider it done.”
..............................................................................................................................................................
These are amazing words to live by, Thank you Stephanie for sharing your message of Finding your GLAMOUR within and being true to who you are.
XOXO,
Sam💋
