Faith and Family are two aspects of my life that I speak about on the regular both in my everyday life and on this blog. It is almost impossible to speak about who I am and the most important things in my life without speaking about either of these topics and to be completely honest, that is something I am proud of. Growing up in a small town like Del Rio, you very quickly find families that share the same interest and values as you do. Being known for loving the game of football, their ranch, and Jesus, the Creamers are strong in their faith and even stronger in their family bond. For my final Feature Friday, I asked the woman behind them all, Mrs. Shawn Creamer to speak about how she encourages self love to her four children, wrangles the tasks of being an entrepreneur, mom, wife, and daughter of The King.
..............................................................................................................................................................
My name is Shawn Creamer. I live and work on a sheep ranch in Southwest Texas that has been in my family for four generations. I own The Lone Star Barn, a creative design business where I create custom wreaths and florals and help clients celebrate all occasions creatively! My blog, The Lone Star Barn, is a glimpse into my life and is best summed up in my tag line,
Faith, Family and Life on a Texas Ranch.
Nothing is more important to me than faith, family, heritage and home. Everything I cherish in life is contained within those four words. My husband and I have raised four amazing children. Life with them at home was chaotic and crazy and I loved every minute! Raising a family of athletes meant busy schedules and lots of blood, sweat and tears. We are new empty nesters but are enjoying traveling to visit and support them in their activities.
What is something you are passionate about?
I am passionate about Jesus, my family and creativity. My Savior created me and blessed me with the incredible tasks of being a wife and a mother, I am PASSIONATE about those roles. Everything else that I get to do is just gravy!
What is one challenge you have face with being an entrepreneur?
The biggest challenge to becoming an entrepreneur and starting a business in my late 40s has been time management. All of our children have been active in sports from elementary school through college which lends itself to crazy schedules. We travel literally thousands of miles a year. Finding time to produce creative products for clients while at the same time supporting my children in their passions has been challenging.
When did you learn about the importance of self love?
For me, self love means loving who God created me to be. God created me in His image! How amazing is that? As I grew to understand that, and begin to see myself as a daughter of The King, I didn't need or seek the approval of others. I'm sometimes told that I am very self confident.
The truth is, my confidence is in Christ!
He doesn't make junk! He created me and loves me, how can I NOT love myself.
" For You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are WONDERFUL I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14.
As a mother, how do you teach your children the importance of self love?
I have tired to teach my children to see themselves as Christ sees them since they were small; to show them how special and unique they are.
I tried to always point out to them the uniqueness that God created in them.
I would try to compliment their character rather than their appearance, to praise them for compassion, kindness and hard work.
I wanted to instill in them that they are created and loved by God therefore they are something SPECIAL and UNIQUE.
Remember the words to the children's song.."Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are PRECIOUS in His sight. Jesus loves the children of the world." When you believe that God loves you, then it's easy to love who He created you to be. Thankfully each of my children have grown to develop their own personal relationships with Christ.
With being a mother to a daughter and sons, how does teaching your children the importance of self love differ?
Teaching both a daughter and sons how to love themselves in a healthy way was important.
The desire for outward attractiveness is important to girls but not unique to girls only.
Again, I tried to focus on inward qualities of each child, such as telling my daughter she was smart and my sons they were brave. Raising a family of athletes had its own unique challenges. Winning is important to athletes and we have a family of competitors.
I often had to remind my children that their value is not in their win/loss record but in their identity in Christ.
They are of value because they are kind and trustworthy and good friends to others. They make the world a better place not because they win but because they encourage others to do their best.
How do you encourage the importance of self love to others?
I believe that when we take our focus off of SELF and place it on OTHERS, that is we are our most attractive.
We are beautiful when we are reflecting the love of Christ to others which allows them to see their own beauty and worth!
I encourage and promote self love to others by pointing them to Jesus. I try to do that through the online Bible studies I teach, through gratitude, sharing our blessings and through prayer. Life is not perfect or easy for any of us.
Social media distorts that and gives us false perceptions.
I believe that by being more open and honest and real with one another, we can begin to erase those differences and see that we are really more similar than different.
That we all have good days and bad days; pretty days and not so pretty days; good hair days and bad hair days .
What does Glam By Sam's Motto "Find your Glamour within" mean to you?
The Oxford Dictionary defines glamour as
"an attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing."
I love the Glam by Sam motto, "find your glamour within." It reminds us that true beauty (glamour) comes from the inside.
It comes from WHO God created us to be and HOW we treat and uplift one another.
I am beautiful not because of what I see in the mirror but because God made me uniquely me! He made me to be creative, assertive and competitive. He made me to love the outdoors, thunderstorms and water. He made me a hugger, to sometimes be stubborn and to dislike meatloaf! He made me emotional, to cry often and laugh at my own jokes. He made me to love cooking and gardening and creating. He made me a bit old fashioned. He made me a rancher, a cowgirl and to honor my heritage. He made me to be Bowen's wife and Taylor, Clay, Shane and Guy's mom and to love my family fiercely. These things to me are beautiful and amazing and THAT is how I "find my glamour within!"
“True beauty emanates from a woman who boldly and unabashedly knows who she is in Christ." (Author unknown).
"For we are God's masterpiece. He has created in us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10
.............................................................................................................................................................. These are amazing words to live by, thank you Shawn for sharing your message of finding your glamour within and being true to who you are.
XOXO,
Sam💋
