Makeup Artist, (GORGEOUS) Gown Designer, and my dear friend Gaspar Cruz is definitely someone you want in your corner. Whether its pageants or everyday life, Gaspar tells it how it is and always wants what's best for his friends and family. He loves hard and makes you laugh harder. When I came up with the idea of Feature Friday, I knew I had to ask Gaspar not only because of his amazing gown designs and work but because he's not afraid to be authentically himself. I have witnessed him live the Glam by Sam motto everyday and I am proud to call him my friend.

How did you decide on your profession?
I didn’t really decide on my profession, my profession found me. In high school I would help my friends pick out their prom dresses and then help them look and feel pretty. I actually wanted to be a news anchor and just did what I do best! I love what I do!
What is your favorite part of your profession?
My favorite part of my profession is that I get to work from home and can decide who I choose to work with and when I want to work. If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life!
Do you as a male believe self love and care is important?
I definitely believe self love is important especially as a man. I see men my age look older than my dad and I knew that wasn’t going to be me. I take really good care of my skin, I moisturize all the time, multiple times a day, all over my body and especially under my eyes.
When did you learn the importance of self love?
I learned at a young age that being gay was a hard enough life and that you really needed to love yourself because the only other people that were gonna love you are your parents. Gay men have a weird dynamic for love and I think it's a billion times more complicated than heterosexual love stories. Monogamy is not a word most gay men want to hear.
What do you continue to do to promote and encourage self love to others?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I encourage it or promote it, I just prefer to live by example.
Working with many females, what is one thing you admire about them?
What I love about working with females, is that I have always believed that women are a billion times better than men. They may not always be physically stronger than men, but I think women are a billion times mentally stronger than a man. I have seen the stuff my mom did as a kid and she could do her regular job, cook dinner, clean a house, do laundry and still have all the kids ready for school the next day! I don’t think my dad could have ever done what my mother did. Plus I’m a feminist because I believe in the progression of women in life and not just a certain field! Not to take anything away from how hard my father worked to be a great provider!
What does the Glam By Sam motto ( “Find your glamour within”) mean to you?
Sam lives by example that you can be pretty but more importantly be kind to one another and especially to other women. Even though she was competing with other women I watched her share things with her pageant competition most women wouldn’t do. That takes a lot of kindness and self love to do things like that.
How do you continue to find your glamour within on a daily basis?
I find my glamour within on a daily basis by taking care of my skin, cleansing morning and night, using an SPF and getting up and looking presentable to the world that you wake up to. We have one life and in this life you want people to remember you for always getting up and at least making an effort!
My advice to everyone out there...hmmm in this day and age with the technology and evolving world around us.
Be where your feet are! No matter what you are doing or who you are with, be in the moment and not on your phone, laptop, TV or paying attention to anyone else other than the person talking to you!
Never ask someone to do something for you that you wouldn’t do yourself!
Never look left or right at your competition for thoroughbred winners only look straight ahead!
